October 2003

We took some time off and went on a nice, relaxing vacation to Lake Tahoe. Relaxing, except for the marathon. Yes, we entered our first marathon. Our times were slow, 5:30, but the most important thing was finishing the event. It was grueling and painful, but very rewarding. And the scenery could not be beat. We started at Tahoe City in 30° weather at 7:15 in the morning. Our shoes crackled on the frosted grass.

We did great for the first 18 or so miles, running a respectable 10:30 pace, but ran out of gas a bit on the long uphill to Emerald Bay. No matter, we finished, and we are proud of each other, and ourselves.

Also, we went to the Arizona State Fair October 24! Great fun.

The view from our hotel room. Nice.

We don't smoke, drink, or gamble. So why are we in a casino?

In the hotel elevator.

On the beach at the lake.

Our cruise ship. Better than "Mississippi Queen".

Together for a sunset cruise.

At the finish line... 26.2 miles!

Relief...
